Parrikar: Reforms needed in education syllabus

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday advocated the need of bringing reforms in educational syllabus in the State to achieve excellence.

PONDA

Parrikar was speaking after inaugurating the new building of Goa Vidya Prasarak Mandal in Ponda on Sunday. Minister of Parliament, South Goa, Adv Narendra Savoikar, PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar, Ponda MLA Ravi Naik, president of general body of GVM’s Bhasker Khandeparkar, chairman of working committee Krishna Shetye, secretary Deepak Gaonkar and others were present on the occasion.
“We have to deeply ponder where we are lacking. Since the last 50 years, par excellence is not seen. But though there wasn’t enough infrastructure earlier, excellence was there,” said Parrikar, who also holds the Education portfolio in the present dispensation.
“Let us not continue with normal education. We need quality education to bring excellence in society,”
“Education should not be for merely getting certificates, but should be put into practice. If we have excellence, why is no one becoming researchers like Dr Raghunath Mashelkar and Dr Anil Kakodkar?” he questioned.
“I think rather than focusing on medium of instruction issue, we should focus on bringing reforms in the syllabus and quality of education,” he said.
“Parents should think of quality of education. We should know the reasons why our children can’t compete in national entrance exams,” Parrikar said.
PWD Minister Dhavalikar, MP Savoikar, MLA Ravi Naik and others also spoke on
the occasion.
The new school premises is housed with life skill resource room, academic resource room, chess in school, conference room, dance and music room and space for sports activities.
