Benaulim murder: Colva police arrest wife, her boyfriend

The Colva police achieved a breakthrough in the cold blooded murder of 35-year-old Vishwanath Sidnal at Benaulim with the arrest of his wife Mangala and her boyfriend Suraj Myageri, a native of Belagavi.

While the wife was arrested by the Colva police Tuesday night after her return from home, her boyfriend Suraj was apprehended on Wednesday at an under construction site at Kadoli-Belagavi. A police team which was sent to Belagavi in search of accused Suraj is on the way back to Goa.

Briefing the media in the presence of Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Margao, DySP Salim Sheikh and Colva police station in-charge, PI Satish Padwalkar at the district police headquarters on Wednesday, district police chief, SP Sunita Sawant said the Colva polce have cracked the murder case with the arrest of the wife and her boyfriend.

She said the wife allegedly confessed that she along with her boyfriend, who is native of Belagavi, killed her husband Vishwanath Sidnal, by hitting him on head with a hard object near right ear and fled away with her minor daughter with co-accused and scooter of her husband.

SP Sawant further informed that investigations have revealed that the accused wife was having affair with her boyfriend, i.e. accused No. 2 Suraj Mugeri since their school days when they were studying in Std VIII.  “In between she was married to deceased Vishwanath Sidnal. She was not happy in her marriage. Accused No. 2 who is married to a deaf & dumb girl wanted to get remarried to accused No. 1. They both planned the murder of deceased six months back and finally succeeded in the early hours of Sunday,” SP Sawant stated.

The district police said the Goa police utilised the services of Goa State Forensic Science Laboratory Team, finger print expert, dog handler with their dog “Rock” and police photographer at the scene of offence and attached necessary exhibits. “The Colva police was quick to form four teams, two teams dispatched to Karnataka and two teams to various parts of Goa to trace and locate the accused,” she said.

During the course of investigation, the wife of deceased namely Mangala Vaibhavi (27), a native of market yard, Belagavi was arrested and remanded to seven days police custody.
