MARGAO
The special meeting of the Benaulim panchayat on Friday discussed the sensitive issue of a Laamani venturing into the tourist taxi business, with the panchayat resolving to petition the Deputy Collector, Margao, and the Colva police.
After the meeting, Sarpanch Diella Fernandes told the media that the special meeting discussed the application made by Roque Fernandes and others on the reported threats issued by one Vassu to the taxi drivers as well as panch member Remy Fernandes.
“Since the issue may snowball into a major law and order situation, the Benaulim panchayat has resolved to write to the Deputy Collector, Margao as well as the Colva police to act in the matter and avoid law and order,” the Sarpanch said. She said the tourist taxi association has made a letter to the panchayat stating that a native of Karnataka had entered into the tourist taxi business. “The tourist taxi operators are against outsiders venturing into the business. They benefit of the the business going only to local youth,” she added.
