Benjamin terms rivals issue as a drama, says will definitely stake claim for ticket

MARGAO
Saying that the issue created by his rivals at the time of joining the Congress as a drama, former MLA Benjamin D’Silva said he will definitely stake claim for the Congress party ticket since he has joined the party on Friday.

He further said that he did not commit any mistake by supporting the BJP government in 2012, saying the BJP already had a simple majority and he had no choice but to support the government taking into interests the development of his constituency.

“Since I have joined the Congress on Friday, the ticket process has started from today. What the rivals have enacted today is a drama to stop me from joining the Congress. I had contested against the Congress in 2012 because of the mistakes of the then MLA, who had even joined the BJP,” he said, adding ‘I have taken the first step in joining the party. The second step will be to stake claim for the party ticket’.

Benjamin, however, said the Congress party would emerge triumphant only if all the party leaders and workers work unitedly for the success of the party.

“I have a base in Velim. When I had first contested the election in 2007, I had polled around 5,000 votes. The same votes I had polled in 2017 as well,” he said, hitting out at those opposing his entry.
