Demanding scrapping of the Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill, 2021 in toto, Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco on Monday asserted the Bill will only give non-Goans the status of Goans and will destroy the land, culture and heritage of the state.

While making a fervent plea to the people of Goa to leave behind their differences and come under one banner to oppose the Bill, the three-time MLA said he is ready to lead from the front to unite the people and ensure the Bill is scrapped.

“I appeal to the people to please leave behind their political differences and come together to save Goa. The Bill has the portents to even change the demography of the state”, he said, while addressing the media on Monday.

He added: “The Bill is not a surprise to me but is an expected reality in the design of the BJP government in finishing Goa and Goans and turning them non-entities in their own land. To me, the Bill is a nail in the coffin to bury Goans”.

The Congress MLA said there are village where houses of real Bhumiputras of Goa are closed and even in ruins if not taken over by Bhumiputras as defines in the Bill. “In the beginning, a large number of Christians started immigrating to UK and other European countries, but now our Hindu brothers are following suit. A large number of Goans are settled in UK, France, Germany. This was known to the people in power who deliberately planned to create a situation where Goans would be made to leave their soil”, he added.

Reginaldo demanded to know the contribution of the BJP government to the state in the name of making Goa a Tourism state. “There are only two or three five star hotels owned by the Goan businessman. These hotels had come up during the Congress regime”, he added.
