Incomplete cleaning of roadside drains blamed for flooding

Incomplete works to clean drains led to flooding of roads in several parts of Bicholim, as pre-monsoon rains wreaked havoc in the taluka on Tuesday.
Waste discarded in the drains began flowing onto the roads, emitting a foul smell in many places, while many low-lying areas were flooded.
The main roads in the market, KTC bus stand, and Muslim Wada were flooded as cleaning of roadside drains had not been completed, causing inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians.
Bicholim Municipal Council Chairperson Vijaykumar Natekar and his teams were seen taking workers to clean the roadside gutters.
Rainwater accumulated in many parts of Sanquelim municipality as well.
The Sanquelim Municipal Council (SMC) had begun a cleanliness drive a few days ago, but it has not been completed yet. “All shortcomings will be resolved and necessary measures will be taken at the required places,” informed SMC Chairperson Siddhi Prabhu.
The situation was no different in many villages across Bicholim taluka, as cleaning of roadside gutters is still in progress.
