A youth from Bihar has been arrested by Porvorim Police in connection with a Rs 28.5 lakh fraud involving forged cheques and fake company letterheads linked to an automobile company’s bank account in Porvorim.

Police said the fraud took place between April 29 and 30. The accused, Abhay Kumar Yadav (25) from Patna, allegedly posed as the company director and contacted the branch manager, seeking transfer of Rs 28.5 lakh to three bank accounts.

He allegedly sent a cheque and request letter on the company’s letterhead through WhatsApp, following which the bank processed the transfer.

The fraud surfaced when the bank asked for the original request letter and later found that both the cheque and letterhead were forged.

During investigation, police found that Yadav’s bank account in Patna had received Rs 14 lakh from the amount.

A Goa Police team detained him in Patna with help from local police and brought him to Goa. The court remanded him to five days’ police custody.
