Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo on Thursday said the State government would soon commission the biomedical waste treatment plant at Kundaim.
“The project is complete and it will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant,” said Lobo, while speaking to reporters after inspecting trial operations at the plant in the presence of a team of doctors from the India Medical Association (IMA).
He said the biomedical waste treatment plant is located on 10,000 sq mtrs of land and has been equipped with the latest technology.
“Biomedical waste from all over the State will be treated at the plant using foreign technology. The waste will be treated with utmost care and villages surrounding the plant will not encounter any problem,” assured Lobo.
The Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) has developed the Rs 12 crore biomedical waste treatment facility in the Kundaim IDC through its concessionaire M/s Biotic Waste Solutions Pvt Ltd.
The plant has been built through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) on a Design, Build, Operate and Transfer (DBOT) basis. The plant’s infrastructure has been set up by the concessionaire along with collection of waste, operations, maintenance and disposal for a period of 20 years.
