PANAJI
All Goa Private Bus Owners Association (AGPBOA) on Thursday staged a protest at Azad Maidan in Panaji to demand a fare hike and waiver of road tax.
The bus owners said running a business had become difficult and uneconomical due to rise in fuel prices.
AGPBOA President Sudip Tamhankar said the bus operators have also suffered a huge loss due to the Covid pandemic as their services were stopped for almost a year.
Tamhankar demanded that fuel and insurance subsidies due to bus owners be given to them as early as possible.
The bus operators have also demanded a Rs 10 hike in the first 10 kms.
The State transport authority has discussed the fare hike issue and the matter is under consideration.
The bus operators have alleged that their business has been in danger as the KTC offers bus services at cheaper rates.
