The decentralised wet waste treatment through the bio-methanation plants has been gaining momentum in the Capital City, with 10 such plants being set up with the support of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP).
The State government inaugurated the second bio-methanation plant at Raj Bhavan on Friday in the presence of Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai and CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate. This is the 10th bio-methanation plant in the jurisdiction of CCP .
“Panaji has always been on the forefront of waste management. With the decentralised approach of waste treatment, an initiative like this will help,” said Monserrate, while speaking on the occasion.
He appealed to restaurants and hotels to take advantage of bio-methanation plants.
“Restaurants and hotels which have a capacity to set up such bio-methanation facilities should adopt such initiatives of reuse and recycle,” he said.
Governor Pillai said the CCP is making serious efforts to promote such projects and requested people to make use of this scheme and implement such bio-methanation plants.
Secretary to Governor Mihir Vardhan said this is the second bio-methanation plant which has been set up at the Raj Bhavan.
“The first plant was set up in July 2021, where around 2 kg of gas is generated per day. The new plant will also generate 2 kgs of gas per day. The gas generated will be used in the kitchen of the Raj Bhavan as well as the canteen,” he added.
