A birthday celebration turned tragic for a group of four friends, all students of St Xavier's College Mapusa, when the car in which they were travelling met with an accident in the wee hours of Sunday, killing the driver on the spot while another succumbed to injuries in the hospital.
Two others survived the tragedy with injuries.
The driver, Ethan Viegas of Pilerne died on the spot, while Lee Ann Rocha from Calangute died while undergoing medical treatment at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
Zahid Shaikh fractured his leg and has undergone an operation, while Lioney Pereira from Ribandar escaped with minor injuries.
Anjuna Police informed that the group was returning home from a club in Candolim, when the driver lost control and rammed the car into a compound wall at about 3 am on Sunday in Assagao, near Mapusa.
The impact was so severe that the driver died on the spot and was trapped inside the car. The Mapusa fire station officials had to cut open the door to remove the body.
The other three were first moved to North Goa District
