Two teams representing BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa Campus, and three teams representing Pilani Campus bagged the first position in different categories in the grand finale of Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2019, organised by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development.
SIH, one of the world’s biggest Hackathon, was held at 48 centres across India on March 2-3.
Smart India Hackathon 2019 is a nationwide initiative to provide students a platform to solve some of the pressing problems of daily lives, and thus inculcate a culture of product innovation and a mindset of problem solving.
Of the about 2 lakh students across India, 300 teams consisting of about 1,500 students were declared winners of SIH 2019 under their respective problem statements.
Two teams representing BITS Pilani, Goa Campus - Team Zenith at Nagpur and Team Appthletes at Ahmedabad, were among the winning teams. Both teams competed against top colleges of India and won in two different categories under different department/organisation.
Team Zenith, comprising Ahan M R, Vedashree Kulkarni, Gaurav Sangle, Aryan Agarwal and Sanket Badgujar, won a cash prize of Rs 50,000 in their problem statement under the Ministry of Railways.
Team Appthletes won a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh in their problem statement under ISRO. The team comprised Gargi Balasubramaniam, Adithya R, Abhiraj Hinge, Mayank Manuja, Pranav Agarwal and Samarth Jain.
Both teams were mentored by Prof Vinayak Naik, Professor in the Dept of Computer Science and Information Systems, BITS Pilani, Goa Campus.
Students were also guided and supported by Prof Ramesha C K, Associate Dean, Student Welfare Division (SWD) and Dr Rajorshi Sen Gupta, Faculty-Incharge, Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE).
Three winning teams representing Pilani Campus - Team Huskarls , team Edge-Triggered and team Cicadacrackers worked on problem statements by Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Govt. of India and Ministry of MSME.
The BITS Pilani administration congratulated all teams for winning laurels for the
institute.
