VASCO: The BITS Goa Innovation Incubation & Entrepreneurship Society (BGIIES) recently organised a one-day Entrepreneurship Bootcamp in association with Lions Club of Majorda-Velsao-Cansaulim and Kerala Sangamam at Zuarinagar.
Thirty aspiring entrepreneurs from the villages of Cortalim, Velsao, Sancoale and Vasco attended the program and as a follow-on activity, the interested entrepreneurs will get mentorship and support from BITS BIRAC BioNEST. At the end of each such bootcamp, the best business ideas would be selected for future support.
This initiative was kicked off by BITS Pilani a year ago to support youth entrepreneurship in rural areas and promote innovative rural businesses outside of agriculture and agri-food.
Such bootcamps are helpful to people who are looking for alternative sources of income, particularly those affected by COVID 19.
The chief guest Rahul Bahadur, Project Officer at IIT Goa, encouraged participants and aspiring entrepreneurs to thoroughly study the society, come up with innovative business ideas, find the right local resources and succeed in life by starting startups.
Harishkumar K, President of Lions Club of Majorda-Velsao-Cansaulim, stated that such bootcamps empower and proactively engage entrepreneurs to unleash their innovative capabilities and realise their business ideas.
Ebin Ephrem Elavathignal, General Manager for BITS BIRAC BioNEST, at BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa Campus, guided participants on project preparations, funding agencies, entrepreneurship and other issues.
Participants were also informed how to put the creative ideas into practice, and how to raise resources from the governments.
Ebin said creating new economic opportunities and improving the livelihoods of rural communities is one of the focuses for BITS BIRAC BioNEST.
