MARGAO: The South Goa District authorities have directed the Mamlatdars in the district to issue an instruction to all the Talathis to survey the area under their jurisdiction within the next two weeks ie by April 4, 2022, and report any existing illegal stone quarrying/mining to the concerned authorities including the Mines Department.
The authorities have directed the Mamlatdars to initiate action against the concerned Talathi for dereliction of duty if any illegal stone quarrying or mining is found in operation post the cut-off date that is after April 4, 2022.
In a memorandum, the authorities stated that it has been observed by the Chief Minister that a large number of cases of illegal mining/stone quarrying is being carried out in various villages in the State.
“As per the Land Revenue Code, any stone quarrying/mining without permission is an illegal conversion of land, and therefore action has to be initiated in such cases by the concerned Talathi by filing the checklist”, the memorandum stated.
"In this regard, all the Deputy Collector/SDOs through Mamlatdars of South Goa District are hereby directed to issue an instruction to all the Talathis to survey the area under their jurisdiction within the next two weeks that is by April 4, 2022, and they are required to report any existing illegal stone quarrying/mining to the concerned authorities including the Mines Department," the memorandum further states.
Further, the Talathi concerned must file the checklist in the matter.
Action taken report, inclusive of the details of reported illegalities for which action has been initiated, should be submitted to the undersigned by April 4, 2022, stated Snehal S Prabhu, Deputy Collector (Revenue).
