Criticising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of trying to engineer political crisis in States, Congress leader and former North Goa District Congress Committee President Vijay Bhike accused it of using tax-payer’s money to “buy” opposition party MLAs in the country.
Bhike on Saturday also said the government has failed to honour its commitment on the social welfare schemes in the State.
“In the name of development, the BJP and its leaders are shopping for MLAs. They are using tax-payer’s money to buy off MLAs of the opposition parties. They have done it in Goa and recently they have tried it in Telangana,” Bhike said.
The former North Goa District Congress Committee (NGDCC) Chief was addressing a news conference along with NGDCC General Secretary Mithali Gadekar in the party office in Mapusa.
Speaking further, Bhike said the BJP-led government was using crores of rupees to buy MLAs and using agencies like CBI and ED to pressurise the legislators to give in and join them.
He said the BJP-led government was carrying forward the same welfare schemes launched by the Congress by renaming it but could not pay the beneficiaries on time.
“The beneficiaries of Griha Aadhar, Ladli Laxmi and other social welfare schemes are not paid for months together. The money from here goes to other States to buy off MLAs,” he alleged.
He said the recent attempt to poach MLAs in Telangana clearly shows the shamelessness of the BJP in trying to throttle democratic institutions in the country.
Bhike said people demanded basic needs such as regular electricity and water supply and good roads but the BJP-led government in the State has failed to deliver even this.
He further said that the Congress would soon come out with a ‘shadow cabinet’ which will keep a tab on various ministers and the concerned departments.
