The Panaji police are inquiring into a complaint alleging that a sitting councillor and a few others are scamming people into enrolling them as members of the Indian Youth Congress.
Chetan Mardolkar, a Ponda resident has alleged that Joel Andrade, Suraj Bhaidar, and others are involved in cheating, fraud, and breach of trust by taking advantage of youth looking for jobs.
"I am unemployed for one year and in search of a job for a long time. I read about a job recruitment advertisement on social media... I called a designated contact number to inquire about the job and was called for an interview on October 26 from 9 am to 8 pm...I attended the said interview at the said office around 2 pm, on inquiry I found out that the office was of one Joel Andrade from Panjim," reads an extract of the complaint.
He further stated that he was 'shocked and surprised' there was no interview and personal details of all the attendees were being forcibly taken. Videos of the job aspirants were also taken wherein they were asked to state they wish to become members of the Indian Youth Congress.
'I was asked to vote 3 to 4 times using an app for Joel Andrade and others. I didn't know for whom this voting is taking place," he said alleging that attendees were lured into being paid money for enrolling new members.
Panaji police said they are inquiring into the matter after which appropriate action will be taken. No statement is also issued by the persons named in the complaint.
