The villagers of Siolim-Marna demanded action against the nightclubs under the relevant act for noise pollution and disturbing the peace of the village.
Pointing to loud music that is being played beyond the permissible time by some nightclubs in the village, the locals said it was high time the panchayat got its act together and to take proactive action against such irresponsible nightclubs.
The locals said that loud music not only disturbed school students but it also affected the health of senior citizens and those who were sick.
Some villagers suggested that the panchayat should conduct inspection of these clubs that play loud music and if need be take steps to seal their premises by following the relevant procedure.
“If night club owners do not listen then the panchayat should write to the collector and the police and conduct inspection of the offending nightclub,” said Gregory D’Souza.
Sharing her experience, Sarpanch, Sharmila Vernekar informed that once when they went to conduct an inspection of a nightclub, the local taxi-owners who do business near the club requested them not to act as they were surviving on the business from the club.
