Senior citizen protests over proposal not being taken up

OLD GOA

A senior citizen Maria do Carmo Saldhana walked out in protest over her proposal not being taken up at the Se Old Goa gram sabha despite she submitting the same in writing to the panchayat.

Saldhana raised up the issue when the panchayat authorities announced that the gram sabha is being wound up, without taking up her proposal.

Speaking to The Goan, Saldhana informed that she waited patiently for over three hours in the hope that her proposal would be taken up.

“However, when it was around 2 pm, it was announced that the gram sabha is being wound up, without taking up my proposal. When I questioned about the same, I was told that the proposal cannot be taken up at the gram sabha,” Saldhana stated.

“If that was the case, the panchayat should have informed me in advance and I would not have wasted my time attending the gram sabha,” Saldhana pointed out while stating that after her protest the panchayat authorities agreed to take up her proposal.

But, Saldhana walked out in protest stating that this is not the way a lady and that too a senior citizen should be treated.
