Sarpanch Sandesh Shirodkar informed that the flyover project at the dreaded Chimbel junction would be completed in two years time.
Shirodkar divulged the information when the issue came up for discussion at the gram sabha on Sunday.
“We have received the bar chart from the contractor according to which the project should take two years to complete,” Shirodkar stated.
Later, replying to a question by The Goan on the commencement of the work, Shirodkar said that the panchayat is in touch with the authorities concerned to ensure that the work is started at the earliest.
The issue of garbage was also prominently discussed with the villagers questioning why certain wards in the village are lagging on maintaining cleanliness.
“There are only some wards where some cleanliness is observed. Why the same cannot be done in other wards?” questioned a local while urging the panchayat to take steps to ensure that the entire village is kept clean.
However, sarpanch Shirodkar said that since the garbage management committee has been appointed, the issue of garbage would be discussed threadbare at the committee meeting.
Members of the Revolutionary Goans also raised the issue of the need to conduct survey in the village with regards to the presence of Bangladeshis.
RG’s Ajay Kholkar pointed out that there is a possibility of Bangladeshis residing in Indira Nagar and urged that a survey of the area needs to be done.
“If need be we are willing to assist in conducting the survey,” Kholkar added.
Meanwhile, sarpanch Shirodkar informed that the panchayat has decided to spend the Rs 50 lakh fund received from the government for adding a third floor to the current panchayat building.
“We have already sought opinion from a public as well as a private engineer on the feasibility of the project,” Shirodkar added.
