The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday condemned the leaders of its former ally Goa Forward Party for holding a meet at the site where late Manohar Parrikar was cremated at Miramar for political gains.

“The Goa forward party leaders have used the Manohar Parrikar Samadhi for cheap political gains and have destroyed the sanctity of the place,” said General Secretary of the party Damu Naik.

It may recalled that after the three Goa Forward leaders were unceremoniously sacked from the cabinet, the GF leaders along with their supporters on Saturday held a protest meet while the new ministers were being sworn in at the Raj Bhavan.

Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte who was also dropped from the cabinet, was also in attendance at the meet where former Deputy CM Vijai Sardesai said the induction of ten Congress MLAs into the BJP was the death of the legacy of Parrikar.

Reacting to this statement, BJP leader Damu Naik said the late Parrikar was a tall leader not only of Goa but the country as well. He said GF leaders using the name of Parrikar for their political selfishness was condemnable.

It is true that Parrikar and Sardesai had a political contract but this was broken when Vijai bargained for Deputy CM and additional portfolios in lieu of support to the new CM Pramod Sawant, Naik alleged.

In fact Vijai should accept the fact that the political combination changes with time and circumstances. “How does Vijai expect the political combination to remain the same as it was at the time of Parrikar,” Naik said, and alleged that GFP betrayed BJP and did not work during Lok Sabha elections for victory of the candidates in South Goa.

The picture would have been different if the GF leaders had worked in South Goa, said Naik.

He said, it is only BJP that will take forward the legacy of Manohar Parrikar and Goa Forward does not have any moral right in that respect.

He said, the leaders of BJP will expose Vijai and all other leaders in the near future.

the goan I networkPANAJIThe 20-day monsoon session of the Goa legislative assembly will commence at 11.30 am on Monday but the depleted and demoralized opposition benches, particularly the Congress which is left with a strength of just five in the House of 40 following last week’s political developments, is expected to steal the zing from the proceedings.   The monsoon session was to be an acid test for Chief Minister Pramod Sawant as it would have been his first…
