PANAJI: With an eye on the 2027 general assembly elections, the ruling BJP today raised concern over the alleged 'fake/bogus voters' in the State while urging the Chief Electoral Office (CEO) to address the issue.
A five-member delegation led by state party Chief Damodar Naik urged CEO Ramesh Verma with a demand to undertake an exercise to weed out bogus or duplicate voters from the electoral roll.
In the memorandum, the party emphasised the need to expedite the linking of Aadhaar numbers with voter IDs. Another key concern raised was the presence of duplicate voters who may be enrolled in more than one location, as well as the names of deceased or migrated persons that continue to appear on the roll. The party called for a comprehensive exercise to identify and remove such entries, not only across polling booths in Goa but across the country.
The party also highlighted discrepancies in how voters from the same household are listed. The memorandum noted that first-time or newly added voters residing at the same address are often placed in separate parts of the roll, making it difficult to identify all family members living under one roof.
Additionally, the party requested that all additions and deletions in the electoral roll be carried out in consultation with the Booth Level Agents (BLA 1 and BLA 2) appointed by political parties, rather than being made unilaterally by Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
The BJP further urged the Election Office to verify the authenticity of voters registered under the same house number and to delete any bogus or fraudulent registrations.
