Dismissing criticisms of Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM), Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar clarified that the BJP had not given any assurance to stop grants to English medium primary schools in its manifesto during the last Assembly polls.

He was speaking to reporters along the sidelines of a BJP meeting at Agarwaddo-Pernem on Wednesday evening.

Speaking further, Parsekar said the role of the State BJP government was to protect Indian languages and education through the mother tongue.

“I have received an invitation for the BBSM meeting at Mandrem on April 24. I will attend the meeting as it is the my duty as Mandrem MLA,” informed Parsekar.

“Some opponents are accusing the government of taking a 'U turn' on the MoI issue. The government is serious on the MoI issue and Indian languages are safe,” said Parsekar.
