Accusing the BJP of hanging on to headless and directionless government, Congress leaders on Monday said the chief secretary and director general of police had been rendered powerless in the State.
“This headless government has no authority of its own and has further reduced the constituently appointed chief secretary and DGP powerless, such that these heads are taking orders from a junior IAS officer and ITI-qualified official respectively,” claimed GPCC President Girish Chodankar, while addressing the Jan Aakrosh at Canacona, the first taluka-wise agitation in South Goa by Congress party.
Former chief minister Digamber Kamat blamed the BJP government for the mining mess, which had left over one lakh people unemployed, adding that mining dependants were forced to reach New Delhi to agitate against the government at Jantar Mantar, for the first time in Goa’s history.
“There is no governance of any sort in any of the departments. Go to the Collectorate, no one takes decisions. This government is in shambles and is responsible for all the ills happening in society,” said Kamat.
Curtorim MLA Alex Reginald blamed the government for various controversies.
“For the last eight months, there’s no one to take decisions on state affairs in the absence of an indisposed chief minister. We all know the CM is unwell and cannot attend to official work. Why does he not step down as CM to be with his family and take time off to recover? We would be happy to see him back once he regains his health”, Lourenco said.
Earlier, while welcoming the first leg of the Jan Aakrosh in South Goa at Canacona, Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes narrated how due the absence of chief minister, files were not moving anywhere and were getting stuck at one place.
“It’s extremely impossible to get the works executed beyond a certain level in any of the government departments,” said Fernandes.
The meeting was attended by as many as five sarpanchas Pramod Phaldessai (Agonda), Ajay Lolienkar (Loliem-Polem), Umesh Goankar (Cotigao) and Suman Gaonkar (Gaondongrim), besides Congress leaders Mahadev Dessai, Janardhan Bhandari, Simon Rebello and others.
