CANACONA
With an eye on the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP conducted a preliminary meet at Canacona on Saturday to prepare grounds for the month-long Vistarak from September 26 to October 31.
The BJP may had fared badly and lost the Canacona assembly polls following a revolt by former minister Ramesh Tawadkar, but the party received a major boost, when all five councillors along with Tawadkar attended the Vistarak preliminary meet at the residence of ex-MLA Vijay Poi Khot.
The meeting was addressed by South Goa MP Narendra Savoikar and Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar, who along with Prakash Velip have been entrusted to re-build the party, besides General Secretary Tanawade, ex-Canacona MLA Vijay Poi Khot and BJP's District (South) President Sarvadanand Bhagat in preparing the grounds for the month-long Vistarak program.
Councillors Dayanand Pagui and Hemant Naik Gaunkar, who along with Tawadkar, had openly led the revolt against BJP's official candidate Vijay Poi Khot, also attended the meeting and listened to suggestions put forth by party leaders.
It was informed that several leaders, including even Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, would visit and meet voters in all 56 booths of Canacona constituency.
The party leaders informed that all booth level workers would be taken into confidence, while efforts would be made to bring back workers, who deserted the party during the last assembly polls.
Savoikar also declared that the party would opening a new office at Canacona before Dusehra and that, both MPs would be in touch with workers and voters at least twice a month.
