PANAJI
BJP Goa President Damu Naik on Monday said that the core committee meeting held at the party headquarters in Panaji did not discuss a possible cabinet reshuffle.
“There was absolutely no discussion on the Cabinet during the meeting. The focus was on evaluating the performance of party functionaries besides their attendance; and even the way programmes are being conducted, how many people are turning up, how they are being organised, etc,” Naik told reporters after the meeting.
The BJP’s internal review, Naik said, is part of its routine exercise to strengthen organisational discipline and commitment to party principles. “Everyone has been reminded about party discipline and principles... it's obvious," he said, stressing, “All is well in the party."
He further added that the party is witnessing a revival of its old workers. “Everything is falling in place... Old karyakartas who were once inactive are coming back into the fold,” Naik said.
Commenting on candidate selection ahead of the upcoming elections, Naik pointed to a healthy competitive spirit. “There was a time when we couldn’t find even one contender. Today, in some constituencies, we have five aspirants. That’s healthy competition,” he said as he also acknowledged occasional disagreements or “slips of the tongue” but downplayed any deeper rifts.
“Nobody will go against the party. At the end of the day, we are a family, and that’s the main point,” Naik said.
Meanwhile, the BJP has constituted an 11-member committee headed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to look into the ongoing issue of app-based taxi services in the State.
