Intensifying the political atmosphere in Goa and setting the stage for a heated electoral contest, the BJP has come under scrutiny for engaging in personal attacks against opposition leaders.
During a press conference on Tuesday, BJP spokesman Giriraj Pai Vernekar launched scathing attacks against key opposition figures, including questioning the loyalty of the Leader of Opposition, Yuri Alemao, and labelling the State Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief as someone out on bail.
Vernekar’s verbal onslaught targeted Alemao’s political history, citing his previous affiliations with multiple parties, and questioned his credibility to speak on loyalty and dedication.
Meanwhile, the BJP criticised the Congress for delays in announcing its nominees for parliamentary seats in the State.
Vernekar, flanked by BJP Vice-President Glen Ticlo and North Goa District Genseral Secretary Rajsingh Rane, emphasised the BJP’s readiness with declared candidates and campaign initiation, contrasting it with what they perceive as the Congress’s hesitancy.
In a direct attack on AAP President Amit Palekar, Vernekar alleged Palekar’s involvement in legal issues related to the Banastarim accident case, stating he was out on bail for allegedly manipulating witnesses.
The BJP spokesman also criticised Congress chief Amit Patkar for his appointment, suggesting the party overlooks its loyal workers.
Vernekar further highlighted the BJP’s cadre-based structure compared to the Congress, which he described as Gandhi-centric.
Challenging the Congress, Vernekar urged the party to nominate a female candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha seat in the State.
