Saying that the Goa Suraksha Manch has patience and perseverance to take the nascent political party forward in the state, GSM leader Subhash Velingkar on Sunday said the party will contest the elections for the City Corporation of Panjim (CCP), the Zilla panchayat election and the Panchayat elections.
Briefing the media after a meeting of the GSM core committee in the city here on Sunday, Velingkar termed as “mysterious” the fact that he polled only 500 votes, reminding that BJP workers had gone to town saying the GSM will not cross the 500-vote mark in the Panjim bypoll.
“The GSM has just sowed the seeds. We have patience and perseverance and our cadre is ready to take the political battle forward. We have decided to organize our blocks and the party will put in place all the booth level committees by August-end,” Velingkar told the media after the meeting of the core committee.
Saying that the core committee did a review of the results of the Panjim bypoll, Velingkar said money power had reigned supreme in the bypoll, adding that voters must also have been swayed by the winnability factor to ensure that their votes does not go waste.
He, however, said that the votes by him was very less compared to the fact that the party had put in efforts to win the Panjim seat.
“It is indeed mysterious that I polled only 500 votes. We have no explanation why we polled only 500 votes. Some days ago, BJP workers had gone to town saying I will not cross 500 votes. In the previous elections also, the BJP had said that Bhatikar will not cross 300- plus votes. They had also predicted that Anand Shirodkar will not cross 221 votes. How their prediction has come true is indeed a mystery,” Velingkar said, while saying the BJP, with all the power at its disposal is capable of managing everything.
Saying that these setbacks will in no way demoralize or frustrate the party cadre, Velingkar reminded the GSM is not finished, but the leaders and workers have all come into political with a mission.
“Swacch politics is not an easy goal to achieve. But, we have ample patience and we are not frustrated with the election results,” he added.
Saying the party would complete the ground level work in all the Assembly constituencies by August end, Velingkar said the GSM will contest the elections for the CCP, besides election for the Panchayats and the Zilla Panchayats due next year.
Saying the government is hell bent on using dirty tricks against his party, Velingkar warned that the party is ready to face the government, warning that people will decide the fate of the BJP government in the future.
