Claiming that former deputy chief minister and ex-Quepem MLA Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar had brought Rs 180 crore worth of development to Khola village in the last 3 years, the Khola panchayat and the Quepem BJP said no one else should take credit for his work.They have asked the new Quepem MLA Altone D'Costa to promote more development as per the mandate given by the people of Quepem constituency.
A news conference was convened by ZP (Khola) member Shanu Velip, State BJP Executive Member Krishna Velip, Khola Sarpanch Poorna Nayak, BJP Quepem Vice President Rupesh Prabhudessai and others, where they presented a list of various development works by Kavlekar.
Listing out various development works by Kavlekar, they claimed that while over 50% of works had been completed, about 35-40% of works are underway and some of the already approved works would be taken up shortly.
“Chief Minister Pramod Sawant during his previous term had helped our ex-MLA and then dy chief minister Babu Kavlekar to get development works to the tune of Rs 180 crore in Khola alone. All these development works were due to the efforts put in by Kavlekar and not by anyone else. People are aware about this,” said ZP Shanu Velip.
State BJP Executive Member Krishna Velip said despite his defeat, Kavlekar continues to take up issues pertaining to public welfare.
“But since the people have given the mandate to the new MLA Altone D'Costa, we request him to bring in new development for the benefit of the people of Khola as well,” said Velip.
Quepem BJP Vice President Rupesh Prabhudessai accepted that the BJP had failed to highlight the works done by Kavlekar ahead of the polls.
He denounced efforts being made by the present Quepem MLA to take mileage for all development works brought in by Kavlekar.
“We had seen him inaugurating some bore wells which were brought in by Kavlekar at Barcem. How can sanction orders be obtained without even sending a proposal for the works, within a short period of 15 days of becoming a MLA,” asked Prabhudessai.
“Now, various works already approved, sanctioned and work orders issued by Kavlekar will be taken up before monsoons. That doesn't mean that these works have been brought in by the new MLA,” Prabhudessai added.
