Launching a scathing attack on Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai, the BJP on Wednesday slammed the Fatorda MLA for changing colours to suit his selfish political interests by backstabbing his voters, as the ruling party accused Sardesai of blackmailing the ruling party to extract the post of Deputy Chief Minister and Forests after Manohar Parrikar’s death.
Party leader Subhash Faldesai wondered why the Goa Forward is still a member of the NDA when Sardesai has been shown his place by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, demanding to know whether Sardesai is waiting to take advantage of any future political development.
Flanked by party district president Tulsidas Naik, Margao BJP president Rupesh Mahatme and ZP member Ulhas Tuemkar, Subhash Faldesai launched an attack on Sardesai, saying the Fatorda MLA need not teach the party lessons on political morality.
On the CAA, he said, Sardesai was maintaining stoic silence on the issue all along, and made his presence felt at the Lohia Maidan, Margao when a section of people tried a show of strength on the issue.
“Sardesai was all along against the BJP and Manohar Parrikar and got the mandate of the people by opposing the party. But, he backstabbed the people and supported the BJP for power,” he added.
Saying that Sardesai was part of the BJP-led government when the MGP split and two of the MLAs joined the party, Faldesai said at that time, the Fatorda MLA did not think the BJP was bad because he was enjoying power.
“After Parrikar’s demise, he blackmailed the party and got the post of deputy Chief Minister and the additional forest portfolio. That time, he did not think the BJP was bad or communal, He accused the BJP of being communal after he was dropped from the Ministry,” he said.
Saying that Sardesai has not severed ties with the NDA after his exit from the coalition government, Faldesai claimed that the Fatorda MLA had gone to Delhi and lobbied hard with the BJP central leadership to retain him as deputy Chief Minister after the three Goa Forward ministers were told to resign,” he said, reminded the people that Sardesai again backstabbed his voters when he went to Maharashtra with a view to form an alliance government in Goa with the Shiv Sena.
BJP district president Tulsidas Naik said the breakaway Congress group had joined the BJP with the condition that the party should drop Sardesai, as they were convinced that the presence of the Fatorda MLA in the government was destroying Goa.
