Asserting that the BJP’s stand is clear on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) from the beginning, State BJP president Sadanand Shet Tanavade on Monday said that it’s a shame that politicians such as Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat and Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai were seating in the audience and listening to the anti-CAA speeches when the CAA has now become a law after it was passed by Parliament.
“Our stand on CAA has been clear from the beginning. The mega rally held by BJP in the state capital only showed the public support of for the Act. Now, the opposition may be holding small meetings to provide entertainment for the people,” Tanavade said while the media asked whether the CAA will impact the BJP in the state.
He said it was indeed bad to see Digambar Kamat and Vijai Sardesai seating at the Lohia Maidan and listening to the anti-CAA speeches when Parliament has passed the law.
“It’s a shame that Digambar, who has won from Margao six times, was seating at the Lohia Maidan despite knowing that the CAA is a law,” he said, adding that the BJP is clear on its stand on the CAA.
Tanavade further pointed out that many people, including former Rajya Sabha MP and Congress leader John Fernandes, have come out openly in support of the CAA, on grounds that the Legislation is in the interest of the nation.
