Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), the satellite organisation of Sangh Parawar and the BJP, has become active over the CAA issue. Alleging that there is violence in the name of anti-CAA protests, Milind Parande, secretary general of VHP in a press conference on Monday demanded action against such protestors.
“The protest against CAA is due to misconceptions created and fueled by politicians or forces like Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and Popular Front of India (PFI). Political leaders are trying to intimidate minorities and Muslims for political gain,” Parande said.
Parande went on to explain that the “CAA has no nothing to do with taking away anybody’s citizenship in India,” but is a means to give refuge to persecuted minorities from the Islamic countries of Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
He said that even ex-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, during his tenure, had also amended the Act to give nationality to persecuted Hindus from Sri Lanka.
Stating that in states like Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Jharkhand and some parts of Maharashtra, there is violence in the name of anti-CAA, Parande added that VHP condemns this violence.
“There is propaganda that CAA is against tribals, SC and ST, but 90 percent of people who are persecuted in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are SC and ST,” he said.
Raising questions over why there is fear and anxiety in Goa over CAA, Parande said that those who are Indian don’t have to bother about CAA.
“People are misinformed on the issueA. If they want to protest against NRC, they can do it later. Why are they combining the issues?” he asked.
“CAA is a country specific law and does not have any intention of taking away the citizenship of any Indian,” he stated.
