The BJP took control of the Salvador do Mundo panchayat as Antonio Fernandes and Roshni Savoikar were elected as sarpanch and deputy sarpanch respectively
Both posts had fallen vacant after former sarpanch Sandeep Salgaonkar and former deputy sarpanch Reena Fernandes were ousted in a no-confidence motion by 5-0 in the nine-member panchayat on June 25.
The Mapusa BDO convened a special meeting on Tuesday in the panchayat office and all nine panchas Bhagwant Naik, Suvarnalata Parsekar, Vijay Chodankar, Antonio Fernandes, Roshni Sawaikar, Sandeep Salgaonkar, Reena Fernandes, Vijay Dalvi and Hemant Borkar attended the meeting.
Antonio Fernandes and Vijay Dalvi filed nominations for the post of sarpanch while Roshni Savaiker was the lone candidate for the post of deputy sarpanch.
Antonio Fernandes defeated Vijay Dalvi by 5-4 votes, while Roshni Savoikar was elected unopposed.
Manohar Parwar from the Mapusa BDO conducted the elections and was assisted by Panchayat Secretary Amit Prabhu.
