CM’s Facebook account hacked, complaint filed

PANAJI

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said his old Facebook account was hacked and that he has filed a police complaint reporting the matter.

The hacking of the account was discovered after a social media user noticed strange activity including a demand to send across money through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) mode.

According to Pramesh Asolkar, whose social media account was allegedly targeted by the hackers, they posed as the chief minister and requested him to send across Rs 30,000 promising to return the money as soon as possible.

"At around 9.30 pm on Thursday night, I received a friend request notification from Pramod Sawant. The profile had the Goa Chief Minister's photo and the lotus symbol of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). I was sure it was genuine," according to Asolkar.

Assolkar said when the demand for money was made he immediately suspected there was something wrong.

Chief Minister has confirmed the hacking of his old Facebook account and that he has formally lodged a police complaint.
