KTC goes digital, launches QR-based ticketing system

PANAJI

Commuters on interstate routes can now book Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) bus tickets online and pay through a QR-based mobile ticketing system.

KTC on Friday launched its QR-based mobile ticketing system in association with digital payments company Paytm and KTC Chairman Carlos Almeida claimed KTC is the first transport corporation in India to introduce cashless transactions with such a payment system.

He said this Paytm payment system can be used to book interstate bus tickets on KTC, which operates 20 services to 13 destinations across different states each day.

"KTC had been facing losses, but once the online ticketing was introduced, these losses were reduced. The KTC has now gone a step ahead by introducing a QR-based mobile ticketing system,” said Almeida.

KTC Managing Director Sanjay Ghate said with the QR-based payment system, the issue of change and overcharging would be resolved.

Meanwhile, stating that proposals for new KTC bus stands at many places, including Panaji, is pending before the State government, KTC Chairman Carlos Almeida said the construction of a new bus stand at Panaji was not in his hands.

Responding to queries from reporters on the poor condition of the existing KTC bus stand in Panaji, Almeida, however, said the KTC is making all efforts to maintain the present building.
