“Most political parties change its stand/strategy from election to election. BJP too has decided to change its tactics to adapt to the changing election scenario,” D’Souza said.
The Deputy Chief Minister was addressing a BJP Election Management Committee meeting in Mapusa in the presence of BJP vice-president Datta Kholkar, general secretary Sadanand Tanavde and other leaders.
An Election Commission of India official was also present for the meeting.
Complementing the BJP workers, D’Souza said karyakatas were the mainstay of the party who are responsible for the success of the party.
“We have a well-established party structure. No other party has an organisation as ours,” he said.
He urged the workers not to bother about candidate selection but to focus on ground work. “Karyakatas should not focus on who will be the candidate but should focus on ensuring victory to the party’s candidate,” D’Souza said, well aware of upheaval among BJP workers in some of the constituencies like Canacona and Mayem.
Giving a boost to party cadre, he said he did not want to venture into the number game but assured that BJP was the only party that was capable to win and form the next government.
“I am not sure how many seats we will get, but all surveys predict that BJP will be the party to get largest number of seats in 2017,” he said.
BJP Vice President, Datta Kholkar exhorted the workers to double their effort and not to take the opposition lightly. “Though the opposition is yet to announce the names of candidates, it does not mean it’s a walkover for us. We need to keep working hard for the success of our candidates,” Kholkar said.
