The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Goa will contest in 37 constituencies on party symbol and may support candidates in three constituencies “ Benaulim, Velim and Nuvem. The party is also likely to announce a list of over 20 candidates this week.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in Panaji, BJP State President Vinay Tendulkar said, “We have decided to contest 37 seats on party symbol in the upcoming State Legislative Assembly polls and support candidates in three constituencies “ Velim, Benaulim and Nuvem.” When asked whether BJP would contest in Navelim, he said, “These are the tentative constituencies in which we will support the candidate.”
The Party has completed the process of shortlisting probable candidates for the polls in 22 constituencies.
“Till Monday, we have covered 22 constituencies and the entire candidate selection process is likely to be completed by January 9”, he said adding, “The mandal committees have suggested probable candidates to the core committee. These names will be sent to the parliamentary board, after which the names will be announced,” said Tendulkar. BJP’s Central Parliamentary Board has also approved a 14-member State Election Committee headed by Tendulkar.
