Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Sadanand Tanavade and Dy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar descended on the Navelim Zilla Panchayat battle field on Wednesday as part of a determined bid by the ruling party to ensure that Lotus blooms in Navelim in the by-poll scheduled for March 20.
That the duo joined the campaign of party candidate Satyavijai Naik assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the visit by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in Navelim last week to drum up support for the party nominee, indicating that the ruling party is leaving nothing to chance.
Before Dy Chief Minister Kavlekar joined Tanavade in addressing a meeting at Navelim, he had interacted with the predominantly Catholic voters inhabiting Baida, coming under Sarzora village, a part of the Navelim ZP constituency.
While Kavelakar said that people from all walks of life are now embracing the BJP as the party stands for development, the state Party President Tanavade said that the BJP had won both the North and South Goa Zilla Panchayats despite attempts by some NGOs and the opposition parties to paint the ruling party in bad light.
He appealed to the voters of Navelim to vote and elect Satyavijai to the South Goa panchayat if they want all the schemes of the central and state government to reach their doorsteps. “When we have a party ruling at the centre and state, electing a member of the party from the Navelim ZP seat will help in delivering the services to the grassroots”, he added.
In his address, Dy CM Kavlekar said that people in general have begun to realize that the BJP can deliver goods to the people. He said the BJP is the right answer if the people want to see their village and state forward, saying that the people have accepted the fact that the BJP is one party which takes all everyone along in the path of development.
If one goes by state president Tanavade, party leaders, Dy. CM Manohar Ajgaonkar, Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues, besides former Minister Avertano Furtado are all working hard for the party’s success in the Navelim ZP seat.
Tanavade says BJP will sweep civic body polls
MARGAO: State BJP President Sadanand Tanavade on Wednesday said that the BJP will sweep the ensuing elections to all the Municipal Councils.
He said the BJP will sweep elections to all the Municipal bodies, including the six going to the polls on March 20 and the remaining five Councils thereafter.
“The opposition is out to oppose the government just for the sake of opposition. But, the people of Goa will show them by electing the BJP in all the municipal bodies”, he said.
