PONDA
Speaking at a public meeting at Usgao, Congress leaders urged the people to vote the BJP government out at the next assembly election with a slogan ‘BJP Hatao, Goa Bachao’.
Opposition leader Pratapsing Rane, former chief minister and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Congress State president Luizinho Faleiro, MLA Vishwajeet Rane, MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, former minister Manohar alias Babu Ajgaonkar and others were present.
The Congress supporters staged a rally from Palwada and it culminated into a meeting at Udiwada Ambabhavani temple. 4,000-odd Congress supporters were present. The effigy of Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and manifesto of BJP were burnt during the meeting.
Congress workers shouted slogans against the BJP government, saying they have betrayed the people of Goa.
Speaking at the meeting, Pratapsing Rane said the BJP government has failed in all aspects. “They gave many assurances in its manifesto during the last assembly election, but they have failed to fulfill those assurances. They assured to appoint Lokayukta, but failed to keep that too,” Rane said.
Faleiro said: “BJP failed to bring the so-called ‘parivartan’ they were claiming of. Where is the parivartan,” he questioned.
“BJP only gave false assurances to the people of this State. They brought people on the road after failing to resolve many issues pertaining to the welfare of people of Goa,” added Faleiro.
Former chief minister Kamat alleged that to usurp power, BJP maligned the Congress party unnecessarily. “They misguided people and maligned us to come to power. They gave false assurances over casino, MoI, regional plan and many other issues,” Kamat said.
“Have the casinos gone out of Mandovi and new entrants stopped?” Kamat questioned.
“They have even failed to bring good industrial policy. Have they give 80 per cent jobs to Goans in the industries,” he questioned further.
Referring to the ongoing MoI issue, Kamat said their party felt that it is the decision of parents to decide on it, but BJP leaders who came on streets against erstwhile Congress government failed to fulfill the given assurances.
Vishwajeet Rane said BJP mismanaged the healthcare infrastructure in the State due to which people are suffering. “They even failed to supply enough water to the hospitals,” he said.
He also said there is shortage of doctors and medical equipment in the hospitals and the government has failed to provide better facilities to the public. “We are not against any individual, but BJP has done nothing for the State of Goa,\" he added.
Lourenco said the BJP government failed to complete the work of South Goa District Hospital and hence there is load of patients at Hospicio in Margao.
