BICHOLIM
The BJP secured its stronghold in Bicholim taluka by winning three of the four ZP seats at Karapur-Sarvan, Mayem and Pale, with an independent candidate winning in Latambarcem and the Congress was left the biggest loser having failed to achieve any success.
LATAMBARCEM ZP
Independent candidate Pradeep Revodkar won the Latambarcem ZP poll, after polling 5,862 votes and defeating BJP’s Shruti Ghatwal (3,751 votes). Revodkar was supported by former Latambarcem ZP member Sanjay Shetye. The Congress candidate Govind Mandrekar came in third after polling 1,032 votes.
KARAPUR-SARVAN ZP
BJP candidate Mahesh Sawant secured 4,497 votes and defeated MGP candidate Yogesh Pednekar by 954 votes to win the Karapur-Sarvan ZP seat. Pednekar polled 3,543 votes, followed by independent candidates, Ajay Naik (1,015) and Meghana Yende (440).
MAYEM ZP
Shankar Chodankar of BJP won the Mayem ZP poll by a slim margin of 126 votes.
Chodankar polled 3,397 votes defeating independent candidate, Premendra Shet, who secured 3,271 votes.
Independent candidate Rajesh Kalangutkar, came third with 2,383 votes, followed by Congress candidate, Prasad Chodankar (1,053), independent candidates, Krishna Volvoikar (550) and Deepkumar Mapari (313). MGP candidate Narayan Tari could secure only 239 votes.Speaking to reporters, Mayem MLA Pravin Zantye said the social work in Karapur-Sarvan and Mayem ZP constituencies, which fall under his assembly constituency, would continue in future.
PALE ZP
Gopal Surlakar of BJP polled 7,139 votes to defeat Congress candidate Suryakant Gawade by 4056 votes in Pale ZP constituency. Gawade secured 3,083 votes, while independent candidate Umakant Jalmi could get only 627 votes.
Gawade has assured to honour the faith and confidence shown by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant towards him.
