MAPUSA: Keeping the pressure against the Mapusa Municipal Council and the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday denounced threats issued to agitating vendors and attempts to break their movement.
It has also warned to intensify the agitation and explore all means to find a solution to the vendors’ grievances, including legal one.
“BJP workers are approaching agitating vendors individually and intimidating and pressurizing them to keep quiet. AAP condemns these tendencies of BJP and warns them that this sort of goondaism will not be tolerated,” said AAP Treasurer Rahul Mhambrey, while addressing a news conference in Mapusa. AAP has further demanded MMC to come forward and disclose the principles/guidelines on which the allotment of places in the new market was made to the vegetable vendors.
Anuisa Deulkar, a vendor who has been doing business in the market for the last 40 years, slammed the council for ignoring her and other local vendors.
“We have been selling vegetables for the last so many years in the market. How can the council ignore us? We only demand that proper justice be done to all,” said Deulkar, who was present at the AAP’s media conference.
“People who deal in business of meat, fruits and even clothes have occupied space in the new market,” alleged Vardha Shirodkar, another vendor.
Abha Mulay, AAP secretary from Maharashtra, Pradeep Amonkar, Srinivas Khalap and others were also present for the news conference
