Opposition leader Digambar Kamat on Thursday hit out at the ruling BJP saying it had "completely failed" to ensure the basic fundamental right to life to citizens who were dying due to non-availability of oxygen.
"The entire country is in shock waves with reports coming from all across the nation of Covid patients dying due to the non-availability of oxygen. The BJP government has completely failed to provide the 'right to life' to the citizens," Kamat said.
"BJP has no moral right to continue in power even for a minute," Kamat added citing the Delhi High Court observations on Wednesday over the paucity of oxygen in Delhi.
Kamat also made a case for President Ram Nath Kovind to intervene and constitute an "empowered Committee" to handle the national Covid-19 crisis.
Meanwhile GPCC spokesperson Tulio D'Souza and newly elected councillor of CCP Joel Andrade also criticised the Pramod Sawant led State government for its poor handling of the latest surge in Covid cases and deaths in Goa.
At a press conference, D'Souza and Andrade said the measures announced by Sawant on Wednesday lacked direction and did little to help the situation.
D'Souza also said, measures like the night curfew and imposition of section 144 while exempting a slew of business sectors from its purview was a self-defeatist strategy.
