Black water in Bethora-Curti nullah raises pollution fears

PONDA
After a downpour on Saturday morning, locals noticed black water flowing in the nullah from Bethora to Curti, forcing them to suspect that some polluted water had been released from the industrial estate in the vicinity.

The locals have been demanding that the government take this issue seriously and protect the nullah.

Locals have alleged that the Curti Nullah had chemical-infested water for the past few years but no action has been taken to resolve the issue. They claim to have been complaining to the Goa State Pollution Control Board for the past 14 years but no action has been taken against those who are responsible for releasing harmful polluted water in the nullah.

Sources said the Bethora Panchayat has been sending letters to the Pollution Control Board for the last 2-3 demanding a joint inspection of the drain.
