Body of rider involved in mishap fished out from Paithona creek

The body of a 31-year-old motorcycle rider was fished out from the Paithona creek at Salvador do Mundo on Thursday morning, after he was involved in a road mishap and fell into the river the previous night.

According to Porvorim police, the rider Akash Bimal Bishwakarma, a native of West Bengal but residing at the 20-point programme in Socorro reportedly fell into the creek at Paithona at about 8 pm on Wednesday, after his motorcycle dashed against an oncoming scooter.

On receiving news of the incident, a police team, officials from the Porvorim fire station and an NDRF team rushed to the spot and were involved in search operations till 12.30 am.

The operation resumed at 6 am on Thursday and an NDRF diver managed to trace the body of the rider. The body was sent to the Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim for an autopsy.

Porvorim Police mentioned that Bishwakarma was working as a driver at an ice cream parlour in Porvorim. He was residing alone in Goa, while his wife and other family members are residing at his native place in West Bengal.

The scooter rider has been identified as Farman Shanmin Ahmed, who is engaged in fabrication and welding work, presently residing at Maina, Socorro. He is a native of Uttar Pradesh and is also residing alone in Goa, while his family members are at his native place.

Porvorim Police Inspector Tukaram Chavan is investigating the case.
