MAPUSA
Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal and his longtime partner Gabriella Demetriades have officially become husband and wife, choosing a quiet civil registration in Goa.
The couple registered their marriage at the Bardez Sub-Registrar’s Office in Mapusa on Friday, bringing a six-year relationship into a legal union.
The registration proceedings began at around 3.30 pm and were completed within half an hour, at about 4 pm. Despite Rampal’s celebrity status, there were no special arrangements or fanfare at the government office, with two local residents appearing as witnesses to the registration.
“It was a normal and routine process without any special arrangements,” Bardez Sub-Registrar Suraj Vernekar told The Goan.
The marriage proceedings assumed an additional legal dimension as Demetriades is a South African national. Officials followed the prescribed procedure applicable to the registration of a marriage involving a foreign national.
Rampal and Demetriades have been living in Goa and were staying at a villa in Socorro. The couple, who began their relationship in 2018, had announced their engagement in December last year. The 53-year-old actor was previously married to former supermodel and entrepreneur Mehr Jesia. The couple, who married in 1998, announced their separation in 2018 after two decades of marriage, with their divorce being finalised in 2019. Rampal and Jesia have two daughters, Mahikaa and Myra. Rampal and Demetriades have two sons together – Arik, born in 2019, and Ariv, born in 2023.
Demetriades, a South African model, actor and fashion designer, has been a familiar presence alongside Rampal in Goa. The couple has largely maintained a relatively private personal life despite their public profiles. Rampal, who has appeared in films including Rock On!!, Ra.One, Don, Om Shanti Om and Dhurandhar, has in recent years also spent considerable time in Goa with his family. His recent engagement and the couple’s life in the state had already put their Goa connection in the spotlight. The marriage registration now makes their relationship official under Goa’s civil registration system, adding a celebrity chapter to the Bardez Sub-Registrar’s otherwise routine Friday proceedings.
