Asserting that Goa has a great opportunity to participate in the booming export market in food, including agriculture and fisheries, Union Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu on Sunday said the Union Cabinet has approved clusters for Goa to make value-added products with respect to fisheries and agriculture.
Prabhu, who also holds the Civil Aviation Minister post said the new airport at Mopa will offer new opportunities to set up an export hub, which will export goods not just to other parts of the country, but outside the country as well.
He predicted that with the country unveiling the agricultural export policy, the country’s export on the agricultural sector will increase to 100 billion dollars from the present 30 billion dollars, adding that fisheries has the potential to create lakhs of jobs across the country and in Goa.
“We will now focus on adding value to fish products. Fish processing industry will offer huge employment potential, besides jobs in the transport and packaging sector. This is going to be a boom for Goa,” he added.
“Goa has a great opportunity to participate in the booming export business in food including agriculture, fisheries. There’s a great opportunity for the fishing community and others to join hands and take advantage of the export potential,” he said
Saying that the Mopa airport will offer new opportunities to set up an export hub to export goods outside the country, Prabhu said that Goa will benefit from the proposed infrastructure. “I am also holding the position in respect of logistics, and I can assure you that the logistics plan will make sure that Goa benefits from the value and supply chain,” he added.
