Goan Warriors Sports Club moved into the semi-finals of the GFA 3rd Division Play-off with a 6-2 win over Xetrapal Sports Club, at Duler stadium, here on Thursday.
In an absorbing match, it was Xetrapal colts that went into the breather leading by a goal, where a 30-yard shot by Sonu Mandrekar crashed into the back of the nylons, 1-0. Goan Warriors had two chances to level the terms but Craig Menezes and Faizal Shaikh failed to beat the rival keeper Ashitosh Gadekar in one-to-one situations.
On crossing over, the match was fought on an equal footing till the exit of Xetrapal keeper Ashitosh in the 64th minute of play. A power-packed strike by Craig Menezes rebounded of the crossbar and the ball travelled to Rohan Kamble who chipped the ball past the injured Xetrapal keeper, 1-1.
Ten minutes later, Chetan Shirodkar got the better of Xetrapal keeper and sent the ball to an unmarked Videsh Sawal, who tapped the ball into the goal, 2-1. Xetrapal received a jolt in the 77th minute with the sending off of Saish Shirodkar, for deliberatly bringing down Chetan outside the penalty box, by
the referee.
As the match progressed, Rohan Kamble (78th min) and Chetan Shirodkar (81st and 94th min) netted their brace, 5-1. However the never-say-die spirit of Xetrapal colts pulled their second goal through a neat placement by substitutie Sarvesh Garval, 5-2. Faizal Shaikh netted Goan Warriors’ sixth goal to complete the
6-2 rout.
