Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday said that 'Sodexo' a global player in food services will be roped in to provide balanced and nutritious food as part of health and wellness solutions to the patients at Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim.
Vishwajit was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the sub-district hospital at Chicalim in the presence of Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho, Urban Development Minister Milind Naik, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha, GSIDC Chairman Deepak Pauskar, MMC chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar and officials of the directorate of health services.
Vishwajit said he had raised the issue with CM Manohar Parrikar that the food provided to patients at GMC was not good quality and patients were forced to bring food from home and also informed that Parrikar had assured to clear the proposal.
"Patient care, recovery of patient and nutrition is co-related and we have decided that GMC, Nursing institute, GMC Mess and all health services institutions will be catered by Sodexo and they will also provide nutritious food to patients as per their illness and in proportions required. Sodexo will also employ a staff of 160 to serve the food to the patients for which the government will spend Rs 14 crores annually," said Vishwajit.
Various other district and sub-district hospitals will also be covered under this proposal at a later stage.
"With Sodexo coming in, criticism of food at GMC will be a thing of the past," said Rane, adding that Parrikar was keeping track of every minute detail when it came to development projects.
"The CM has sanctioned Rs 5.5 crores for the tertiary cancer centre. Cancer cases are rising in Goa and we have received Rs 50 crores from the Center and CM wil offer another Rs 30 crore which will be earmarked for a new cancer hospital. CM has also told me that he will extend all his support so that we can tie up with India's number one Tata Memorial Hospital who will run the new cancer hospital facility. GMC's super-speciality block will be the best of its kind across the Konkan region," Vishwajit said.
