Some panch members of Borim Panchayat have been accused of taking huge amounts of money from the two mobile phone network companies to erect towers in the village.
The Borim Panchayat has resolved to revoke no-objection certificates issued to them.
The gram sabha presided by sarpanch Deepali Naik was attended by all the eight members and Panchayat Secretary Prasad Naik.
Villagers were furious over the deployment of heavy police force along with one police sub inspector. At the start of the meeting, a ruckus was witnessed over the issue, which continued till 3 pm at the conclusion of the gram sabha.
The villagers objected to two mobile phone towers within the vicinity of Borim bridge and resolved to revoke their NOCs. They alleged that some panchas have come to some kind of 'understanding' with the mobile network companies and issued the approval.
The issue of crematorium at Deulwada-Borim was also discussed. The panchas assured the villagers to knock the doors of court to seek possession of the land given to them by the comunidade.
According to the villagers, panchayat has failed to take action against one person who reportedly demolished the structure of the crematorium.
Sources informed that Borim Panchayat had earlier sought legal opinion over lodging of the complaint against the suspect, but stepped back after learning that the land was no more in possession of the local body.
Local panch Parimal Samant, however, assured the villagers to challenge the ‘title of land’ in the district court.
Sources informed that though the comunidade had permitted the panchayat to construct a crematorium a few years back, they failed to take the proposal forward. When they resumed work some five years later, they realised that the land was in possession of one individual, which he claimed through legal process.
