St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar has petitioned the Director of Panchayats (DoP) to demolish the alleged illegal shanties at Curca near the Military camp, failing which he has threatened to hold agitation on lines of the agitation outside the Dy Town Planner's office.
Speaking to reporters after meeting with Dy Director of Panchayats Krishnakanth Pangam in absence of the DoP, on Monday, Borkar said that he has asked for action against the illegal shanties.
"Recently, the High Court has issued an order to demolish illegal structures in the State but no action has been taken against these illegal shanties which are located close to a Military camp," Borkar stated and questioned whether the authorities will act only when some terror attack takes place.
"Therefore, I have petitioned the DoP to initiate action against the shanties and have told the Dy Director of Panchayats that they have time till Friday to initiate action. If they do not act, then I will be forced to launch agitation just like the one outside Dy Town Planner's office," Borkar informed.
Further, the MLA informed that some politicians close to the ruling government have allegedly promised the owners of the shanties that they will give them protection.
"It has come to my notice that these politicians who rely on the votes of the occupants of these shanties have promised that they will not allow their shanties to be touched," MLA Borkar said and condemned such politicians who he said will go to any length to protect their votebank.
"But I am firm on the demolition of these shanties and I will not keep quiet till I get the job done," Borkar said.
Meanwhile, MLA Borkar also stated that he informed the Dy Director Pangam about the Curca-Bambolim panchayat not issuing stop-work orders to the proponents of the Bambolim hotel project and the retaining wall along Bambolim beach front.
"I have asked that directions be issued to the panchayat to issue the stop-work orders," Borkar stated and questioned whether he has to time and again bring it to the notice of the DoP on lapses of the panchayat.
