Breaking away not fair to voters

DELILAH LOBO, SIOLIM CONSTITUENCY

Breaking away not fair to voters

The Goan:  In one sentence, why should people vote for you?

Delilah Lobo: People in Siolim are praying for basic necessities like water, power and good roads. Imagine after 75 years of India’s Independence and 60 years of Goa’s Liberation we have to promise water, power and good roads to Siolkars in our manifesto. I am here to make a difference.

TG: If you are part of the government, which is the first legislation you would like to pass in the assembly?

DL: We need to pass a legislation so that political parties do not break away with 2/3rd majority and join another party. People have reposed faith in you because of the party you are contesting from. Breaking away is not fair on the electorate.

TG: Which is that one leader outside your party that you admire as a politician and why?

DL: I admired Manohar Parrikar for his values and principles and therefore joined the party 13 years ago. He was a role model to us.

TG: Who would be your CM choice, should your party come into power?

DL: Obviously, Digambar Kamat. He was the one man who stood by the Congress even when everyone else deserted it.

TG: Do you justify a merger by 2/3rd or do you consider it as a move against the mandate of people? Explain.

DL: It’s definitely against the mandate of the people. Although this term of the assembly has ended, we hope the High Court will give a historic judgement against the 10 legislators who quit Congress and joined the BJP in the last term.

TG: Do you feel the 2022 election will throw a clear winner? Who are your top three finishers along with seats they are likely to win.

DL: Yes. It will be Congress all the way with 22 plus seats. We will not need support of anyone else. TMC-MGP will be second and BJP in the third position.
